Australia: Planning for Excellence
Last Updated: 2 March 2011

Representing Cooper Grace Ward Lawyers, Associate Selina Nutley was part of a multi-disciplinary team to win an award for Excellence in Planning Practice and Administration, presented by the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) in late 2010.

The team undertook a unique method of resolving a Planning and Environment Court appeal, by proposing that parties involved jointly appoint an independent expert team to prepare a structure plan for a 15-hectare site.

The team was made up of town planners, urban designers, engineers, and ecological and landscape architects who were specifically commissioned to resolve a dispute between council and developers over future use of the site.

The team’s approach in producing the structure plan was commended by the PIA Award judges as a significant example of how to promote good development in areas of multiple or competing interests.
