Australia: Middletons joins one year to go celebrations in the lead up to the biggest sailing event Perth has seen in 23 years
Last Updated: 18 November 2010

Middletons is delighted to be the sole provider of legal services to the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships to be held in Fremantle from 3–18 December 2011. The 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be the key qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

In 2007 it was announced that Perth was the successful bidder to host the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. This will be the biggest sailing event to be held in Perth since the 1987 America’s Cup Defence. The championships are held every four years with the previous event having been held in Cascais, Portugal in 2007.

The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships will be the key qualification event for the 2012 London Olympic Games and showcases Perth and Western Australia as a premier international sailing location.

The two-week Regatta will be held at Fremantle between Bathers Bay, Challenger Harbour and Success Harbour and will attract 1,400 international competitors, 5,000 official personnel and hundreds of thousands of visitors to Western Australia.

Middletons entered the Perth market in December 2008 establishing an office to service the firm’s growing number of clients in Western Australia. The Perth office has grown substantially in that time and the firm is proud to support the local community in which it operates through its association with the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

Middletons National Managing Partner, Nick Nichola said "Middletons, like the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, has a true national presence with a global reach. Much like the way in which our lawyers service clients, the Perth 2011 event embodies Middletons' values in showcasing innovation in world sailing which engages and challenges these athletes."

Young, solo, around the world sailor, Jessica Watson has become the 'face' of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. Jessica, a 17-year-old with determination and courage beyond her years, became a national hero and was an obvious choice to support Perth 2011.

The Perth International Regatta (test event) for next year’s ISAF Sailing World Championships is being held in Perth from the 16 – 21 November 2010.

A pre-regatta news conference was held on 15 November at the Royal Perth Yacht Club. Distinguished guests included Perth 2011 Chairman, The Honourable Ian Campbell, Perth 2011 Event Director, John Longley AM, Ben Ainslie of Great Britain (triple Olympic gold medallist) and Tom Slingsby of Australia (Rolex ISAF World Sailor of the Year 2010).
