Australia: Corrs celebrates LGBTI inclusion in business

Australia's leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, hosted an event in its Sydney office to promote diversity, equality and inclusion in the legal profession.

The launch welcomed keynote speaker Michael Ebeid AM, CEO and Managing Director of SBS, who is a prominent role model for the LGBTI community. Michael is passionate about workplace culture and spoke about the importance of championing diversity and inclusion strategies in business, to create an environment where all employees feel empowered to bring their whole selves to work.

Corrs also unveiled the new name and logo for its LGBTI network, 'Pride@Corrs', reflecting the important contribution made by allies and friends of the LGBTI community across the firm's offices.

Members of Pride@Corrs were joined at the reception by a number of key Corrs' clients, representatives from LGBTI community groups, representatives from the arts and key role models from the LGBTI community, including Alex Greenwich, MP, Co-Chair of Australian Marriage Equality (AME).

Corrs is a member of Australia's leading LGBTI employer organisation, Pride in Diversity, and a signatory to the Law Council of Australia's Diversity and Equality Charter.

Robert Regan, partner in charge of Corrs' Sydney office and executive sponsor of the Pride@Corrs network said Corrs was delighted to host Mr Ebeid and to pay tribute to his work in promoting diversity in Australian business.

"Diversity and inclusion, including LGBTI inclusion, are important to the wellbeing of our people and the success of our firm. It is an honour for us to be able to pay tribute to Michael Ebeid and recognise his trailblazing work for diversity in business.

"Michael's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism was recently recognised by his inclusion on the 2017 Queen's Birthday Honours List. Through his innovation and leadership in business, Michael has demonstrated the spirit of inclusion and diversity that is valued by Corrs and our clients, and we are keen to share that with the business community," Mr Regan said.

Corrs has joined a number of its key clients and corporate partners in publicly supporting marriage equality, and is a signatory to AME's open letter from business leaders in support of marriage equality.
