United States: Elon Law Profiles Womble Carlyle Attorney & Adjunct Professor Jack Hicks
Last Updated: August 21 2017

GREENSBORO, N.C.—In addition to guiding clients in complex patent and trademark proceedings, Womble Carlyle attorney Jack Hicks also is helping prepare the next generation of IP professionals as an Adjunct Professor at the Elon University School of Law. Hicks also has led numerous Elon Law study abroad trips, including one to Amsterdam and Florence earlier this year.

Recently, Elon's Journal of Leadership and the Law spotlighted Hicks, his work on behalf of clients, and his role as a legal educator. Hicks tells author and law school student Jessica Chong that "law students and new attorneys need to dispel any perception that they are not willing to work hard and to put in the time necessary to master a subject or task." He says aspiring attorneys should build the following four skills:

  1. passion/curiosity;
  2. willingness to work hard;
  3. mastery of black letter law; and
  4. the ability to demonstrate critical analysis.
