United States: Womble Carlyle’s Marty Stern, Simon Business School Announce Simon D.C. Fellowship
Last Updated: July 25 2017

Womble Carlyle attorney Marty Stern is partnering with the University of Rochester's Simon Business School to launch the "Simon D.C. Fellowship", an annual award to a Simon School student to pursue a D.C.-based project that focuses on the intersection of government and business.

Potential projects are open to the applicant's imagination, and some examples include research on sector-specific legislative or regulatory activities and impacts; political risk, regulatory uncertainty and firm performance; and the government's use of big data and analytics and impacts on particular sectors.

The Fellowship, which will culminate with a presentation from the Simon D.C. Fellow at an annual D.C.-area event, is being promoted as a vehicle for the exploration of the interplay between government and business and promoting engagement between the school and D.C.-area alums.  Stern, who is the lead donor for the Fellowship, is a member of Rochester's D.C. Leadership Cabinet and the Simon Business School's Advisory Council. He is a 1980 Simon Business School MBA graduate, and a graduate of the University of Rochester.

Marty Stern provides legal and strategic counsel on regulatory, policy and commercial matters to telecommunications, information technology and media firms, including network operators, programmers, and technology companies, in the United States and globally. He also develops and executes regulatory and legislative strategies, including through trade associations and the formation and implementation of industry coalitions, and engages in associated advocacy.
