United States: Pryor Cashman Earns Top Chambers Rankings For Ninth Straight Year
Last Updated: June 1 2017

For the ninth consecutive year, Pryor Cashman has been named among the nation's best law firms by Chambers USA. As in previous years, the firm's Media + Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Immigration Groups were recognized as leading practices, along with several individual attorneys, who were honored for distinction in their fields.

"Business-Oriented and Extremely Capable" Media + Entertainment Litigators

Chambers praised the firm's Media + Entertainment: Litigation practice for its "strength in the music litigation space" as well as its "handling of a wide range of disputes on behalf of artists, songwriters, music publishers and record labels." The group's "expertise in royalty rate-setting, contractual and intellectual property litigation" and "adept[ness] in counseling clients involved in theatre, film, TV and literary publishing" were also highlighted.

One client surveyed by Chambers enthused, "the team is very business-oriented, extremely capable and thorough," while another said, "the lawyers are very quick to get back to us. They make clear recommendations based on facts."

"Strong Expertise" in Intellectual Property: Trademark and Copyright

Also featured in the rankings was the firm's Intellectual Property: Trademark and Copyright practice, which Chambers called "well known for representing high-profile clients in the world of music and entertainment."

Additionally, the group was touted for its "strong expertise" in digital rights and online rights enforcement, as well as its "growing reputation for work involving virtual currencies and other financial technologies."

Clients in this space raved, "what sets the firm apart is the value they bring beyond the transactions. Attorneys are forthcoming and generous with business advice."

"Unsurpassed Service" in Business Immigration

Rounding out the practice awards was the Immigration Group, which Chambers called a "strong team housed within a full-service firm offering counsel on a full range of business immigration matters."

Clients praised the group's "attention to detail, responsiveness and availability to take the next step and be accommodating," adding, "the level of service they provide is unsurpassed." "I trust them totally," another said.

Individual Attorney Honors

Capturing highest honors for his work in immigration law was Partner Avram Morell, who Chambers lauded as, "very insightful," with a "broad corporate immigration practice that benefits from his knowledge base, contacts and involvement with the government [on] up-and-coming issues."

Morell's clients attested, "he understands our business and culture and is great at translating complex laws into layman's lingo."

Also recognized for her expertise in immigration law was Practice Chair Colleen Caden, whose skill in strategic immigration planning and reputation for being "virtually instantaneously responsive at all hours, day or night," secured her place among New York's top practitioners.

Chambers mainstays, Donald Zakarin, Chair of the firm's Litigation Group, and Brad D. Rose, Chair of the Intellectual Property Group, were once again honored for their work in Media + Entertainment: Litigation, including the successful representations of EMI Music Publishing in a highly-publicized copyright enforcement lawsuit and Capitol Records in a breach of contract action against recording artist Shawn Mims.

Clients described Zakarin as "very aggressive, but also a business-oriented litigator," telling Chambers "he is a great writer, incredibly responsive and always willing to take on calls."

Rose also earned praise from media and entertainment clients, who regard him as "a very effective business advisor." Additionally, he placed on Chambers' list of top Intellectual Property: Trademark and Copyright attorneys, thanks in part to his successful defense of Kanye West in a trademark infringement dispute involving the film Loisaidas.
