Guernsey: Guernsey Set To Host London Debate On The Future Of Funds
Last Updated: 22 September 2009

Expert speakers from Guernsey and the UK are set to examine the future of the funds industry at an event in London at the start of October.

Guernsey is hosting ‘The BIG debate: Investment funds in the post G20 world – Threats and opportunities for the Island’s funds industry’ at the Grange St Pauls Hotel in London on Tuesday 6 October.

Peter Niven, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance – the promotional agency for the Island’s finance industry, said: “The current economic conditions are impacting on the business flows that we are seeing coming through the pipeline but we still need to make sure that we are showcasing our funds capability in the marketplace. This event will allow us to meet with introducers of business from London, take stock of the issues that are affecting us all at the moment and look at where we believe the industry is heading in the future.”

The debate will tackle key issues such as the credit crunch and new fund industry trends; beyond G20 ‘white listing’; the changing face of Guernsey as a home for administration and management; an update on Guernsey’s legal framework; the EU’s AIFM Directive; and the future of the 50 year relationship between Guernsey and London.

Keynote speaker and chair of the debate will be BBC Radio 4’s Financial Reporter and Presenter Adam Shaw who will be joined by John Roche, Partner, PwC; Christopher Anderson, Partner, Bedell Cristin; Mark Russon, Business Development Manager, London Stock Exchange; Christopher Fawcett, Chairman, the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA); and Daniel Godfrey, Former Director General, the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

“The panel that we have been able to put together is very high quality and represents the majority of our client base. It is crucial for us to engage with them in the current climate and show that Guernsey is looking forward and not shying away from the difficult issues which are confronting the industry,” added Mr Niven.
