Last Updated: 28 August 2009

A line up of top professionals has been confirmed as speakers at the inaugural International Business Summit hosted by the Channel Islands Stock Exchange (CISX) on September 11 in Guernsey.

The speakers will tackle wide ranging issues from various international viewpoints, both the threats on the horizon and the investment opportunities.

As the opposition to the EU Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers gathers momentum, the Summit will hear the views of David Bennett, Chief Executive of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers and Brussels based Alistair Sutton, an English barrister practising European law and an adviser to the British Crown Dependencies.

Mohamed Younes, Chairman of the Concord International Investments Group, LP and Simon Morgan, Director of Private Equity at Standard Bank in London, will assess trends in the private equity market and US based Kenneth Munkacy, Senior Managing Director of GID International Group, will examine property investment strategies.

The Bailiff of Guernsey, Sir Geoffrey Rowland, will provide a keynote address on Guernsey’s position within the global finance industry and the Channel Islands theme will be expanded by Jo Huxtable, Director of Tax, Deloitte & Touche and David White, debt listing and specialist in investment structures at D J Whitelaw.

Special feature presentations during the day include a talk from leading marketing academic and prolific writer, Professor Sandra Vandermerwe, who will discuss marketing for these tough economic times, and Maya Bhandari, senior economist at Lombard Street Research and a regular commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg News, who will focus on the future of the BRIC economies based on her expertise of various emerging markets.

The summit, which will be introduced by the Chairman of the CISX, Jonathan Hooley and include an update from CISX Chief Executive, Tamara Menteshvili, on the Exchange’s strategy in the current climate, will conclude with a global economics round table discussing what market trends can be anticipated featuring:

  • Tim Hames, head of communications & Public Affairs at the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association
  • Sandra Horsfield, Senior Economist, Barclays Plc
  • George Buckley, Chief UK Economist, Deutsche Bank
  • Francesca Carnevale, Editor of FTSE Global Markets magazine

Tamara Menteshvili, Chief Executive of the CISX, commented: "We are delighted with the calibre of our speakers and with the scope of the agenda for the one day summit. It is our intention to make the event as thought provoking as possible by highlighting some of the most important issues when considering global investment decisions. In the wake of the G20 summit, there is heightened awareness of the Channel Islands and this is our opportunity to capitalise on the positive global profile and to provide useful insights into key issues going forward."

The International Business Summit, to be staged at the St Pierre Park Hotel on Friday, September 11, is sponsored by Intertrust, Mourant, Ogier and Ozannes.
