British Virgin Islands: Ogier Partner To Speak At Hedge Fund Emerging & Startup Manager Forum
Last Updated: 12 May 2017

Ogier partner Simon Schilder will give a briefing on setup and regulatory compliance options for BVI funds at an industry event in London on Wednesday.

Simon – who is recognised by IFLR 1000 as a leading lawyer, and who is a former Chairman of the BVI Funds Association – is giving a presentation with BVI Finance, the industry's promotional body.

The presentation covers the BVI regimes for professional, private, incubator and approved funds and their relative investment thresholds, conversion options and cost base management.

The event – at the Radisson Blue Portman Hotel – is expected to draw more than 300 hedge fund professionals and investors.

A series of reforms and updates to BVI law and regulations have seen changes to the jurisdictions regulatory framework with the development of the approved and incubator fund regimes, the introduction of the Securities and Investment Business (AIFMD) Regulations, and ongoing work on updates to the BVI Partnership Act.

Simon, who heads Ogier's BVI Investment Funds practice from the firm's Jersey office, said: "There has been a significant amount of work in reforming and updating various key laws and regulations, and this is a good moment to take stock and review the impact of those changes and the current state of play.

"The incubator fund regime will be of particular relevance, we have seen it gain traction over the last 18 months as market awareness has built up, and it will be of interest given the event's focus on emerging and startup options for managers."
