United States: Womble Carlyle, Greensboro Chamber Of Commerce Celebrate Small Business Success
Last Updated: May 10 2017

Small businesses are a key economic engine in the American economy. These employers account for more than 40 percent of the nation's annual Gross Domestic Product, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

So on May 2, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce honored the contributions small businesses are making in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad.

Womble Carlyle attorneys Jack Hicks, David Crowe and Jamie Stone and IP client liaison Jennifer Glosson represented the firm at the Small Business Symposium and Awards. Womble Carlyle was a sponsor of the event as well.

Hicks nominated Fusion3 Founder & CEO Chris Padgett for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards. Fusion3 manufactures 3D printers, and Padgett has been a guest speaker for Hicks' Elon University School of Law class in the past.

Lynn Douthett, North Carolina District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration, was the keynote speaker for the event.

Jack Hicks has more than 25 years of experience global businesses through all stages of the intellectual property process. He has considerable experience helping companies prepare and prosecute patents in international venues, particularly in Europe and in Asia. In 2013-15, he served as Vice-Chair of the U.S. Bar-EPO Liaison Council, an organization made up of U.S. bar association-appointed members and holds meetings to discuss matters of importance to U.S. practitioners who have clients who pursue patent protection.

David Crowe's practice focuses upon all aspects related to the acquisition of patent rights, including patentability studies, as well as application preparation and prosecution for both utility and design applications filed in the U.S. and abroad. His practice covers mechanical, electromechanical, optical, and materials-based technologies.

Jamie Stone counsels clients in general business matters, including corporate and commercial transactions and corporate finance. Her specific experience includes mergers and acquisitions, corporate formation, reorganization and governance, commercial contracts, healthcare transactions and representing lenders in project finance and credit facilities.
