Program Content:

The U.S. government is expected to pass and implement legislation that creates a fiscal incentive for U.S. companies to repatriate trillions of dollars into the U.S. economy. This potential legislation could require that a portion of the repatriated funds be used for "job-creating" investments. If these investments are tied to the creation or the expansion of existing facilities, then federal, state and local economic development "incentives" must be reviewed for applicability. If secured, these incentives can result in significant benefits, sometimes reducing the cost of a project by 20% or more. These incentives can come in the form of property tax abatements, sales/use tax rebates, employment withholding rebates, tax credits, cash grants, training funds and more.

Our National State and Local Tax Credits and Incentives leaders will walk you through real-life on-shoring examples and review pertinent criteria to identify best practices, as well as pitfalls to avoid when attempting to secure Incentives.

Learning objectives:

  • Describe proven methods for establishing process/procedures required to identify and secure benefits related to Incentives
  • List key requirements related to typical Incentive packages
  • Identify typical forms of incentives and how state and local communities may view the influx of capital

Featured speakers:

  • Steve Carter, managing director, State and Local Tax - Credits and Incentives Practice Leader, Cleveland, Ohio
  • Mike Eickhoff, managing director, State and Local Tax - Credits and Incentives Central Region Leader, Chicago, Illinois
