Guernsey: Guernsey Insurance Forum 2008 Looks Into The Future

November’s Guernsey Insurance Forum will take a look into the future as leading industry figures tackle some of the hottest topics within the risk management world.

The Guernsey Insurance Forum 2008 takes place in London at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre on Wednesday 12 November 2008 and includes speakers David Reeves, Chief Executive Officer, Barbican Insurance Group; Dominic Samengo-Turner, Chief Executive Officer, Global Markets, Willis; Simon Kilgour, Partner, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP; and Frank Indestege, Senior Account Manager, Vanbreda International.

Managing risk in a soft market, Solvency II and the changing tax landscape are just three of the key issues that will be explored during the conference which is being hosted by the Guernsey Insurance Company Management Association (GICMA) and Guernsey Finance – the promotional agency for the Island’s finance industry.

The keynote speaker at the event will be Hamish McRae who is the principal economic commentator of The Independent and The Independent on Sunday. He will consider the macroeconomic implications of the credit crunch on the UK and global economy.

The plenary sessions for the one-day conference are ‘Guernsey – The Innovative Risk Solution’, ‘Managing Risk in a Soft Market’ and also a final panel discussion ‘The Captive Clinic’ question and answer session.

Breakout sessions will cover topics including Solvency II, tax, benchmarking versus investment return, regulatory approaches to captives, documentation risk, accounting, enterprise risk management, employee benefits and reinsurance.

There will be speakers from Guernsey’s international insurance industry, including Mel Carvill, Deputy General Manager and Head of Corporate Development & Enterprise Risk Management, Generali; Diane Colton, Director of Insurance, Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC); and Tony Mancini, Executive Director, Tax, KPMG CI. In addition, delegates will be able to walk through an exhibition by Guernsey providers, including world-renowned and boutique captive managers, multi-jurisdictional law firms and the major accountancy firms.
