United States: Parker Poe Attorney First To Be LEED Accredited In South Carolina
Last Updated: July 4 2008

July 2, 2008 (Charleston)—The law firm of Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP announced today that Paul VanWagenen earned the credential of LEED Accredited Professional from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). According to the GBCI’s Accredited Professional Directory, there are currently only 67 accredited professionals in the legal field nationwide, and Mr. VanWagenen is the first attorney to become an accredited professional in South Carolina.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. The LEED Professional Accreditation distinguishes building professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.

"Paul’s accreditation demonstrates Parker Poe’s commitment to our clients. We have found that supporting clients who develop their projects using environmentally sustainable policies and practices requires an in-depth understanding of the applicable standards and incentives," said Matt Norton, head of Parker Poe’s Resort, Hospitality and Planned Development Industry Team. "Paul’s familiarity with the LEED standard and sustainable development enables us to work closely with clients and their design teams to ensure the success of their projects."

Mr. VanWagenen is a senior associate in the Real Estate & Commercial Development Department and a member of the Resort, Hospitality and Planned Development Industry Team. The RH&PD team represents developers and other hospitality clients whose business revolves around resorts, the hospitality industry, and master-planned and mixed-use developments. The team is made up of attorneys and other professionals from all of Parker Poe’s offices and almost all practice areas, including real estate and commercial development, corporate and securities, litigation, employment, banking and public finance, intellectual property, tax and immigration law.
