United States: Diversity Speaker Series

As part of the firm's Diversity Speaker Series, the firm hosted the following events over the past several months.

On Sept. 20, in honor of National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month, Kramer Levin's Diversity Committee hosted Tomas Lopez for a discussion titled The Voting Rights Landscape in 2016. Mr. Lopez provided insightful details and discussion on voting rights law, policy and litigation, and their impact on the 2016 election. Additionally, he provided an overview of the Brennan Center as well as the ways in which voting rights issues affect certain communities.

Tomas Lopez is counsel for the Brennan Center's Democracy Program, where his work focuses on voting rights and elections. Prior to joining the Brennan Center, he was a fellow at the Southern Poverty Law Center's Immigrant Justice Project. There, he worked on litigation and advocacy challenging anti-immigrant legislation in Alabama.

In honor of National Disability Awareness Month, Kramer Levin's Diversity Committee hosted NAMI-NYC Metro for a presentation titled In Our Own Voice on Oct. 13. This discussion offered a moving insight into the hope and recovery possible for people living with mental illness.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City Inc. (NAMI-NYC Metro) is a grassroots organization that provides support, education and advocacy for families and individuals of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds who live with mental illness.
