Australia: Sparke Helmore promotes two partners
Last Updated: 2 February 2017

Sparke Helmore Lawyers is proud to announce the promotions of Melbourne-based Katherine Whittemore and Brendan Charles to the role of partner in the Government and Workplace Groups, respectively.

"Starting the year with two internal partner promotions is fantastic. I'm delighted to see our partnership continue to grow through external lateral hires and the development of our exceptional people, internally. Our now 73-strong and growing partnership is integral to our aim of becoming a world-class Australian law firm," said Phillip Salem, Sparke Helmore's National Managing Partner.

Katherine is an experienced litigator and advocate with a strong background in administrative and criminal law. She regularly appears in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Federal Circuit Court, Federal Court and High Court of Australia for Commonwealth Government entities in matters involving statutory interpretation, merits review and judicial review. Her experience extends to debt enforcement proceedings, civil penalty proceedings, coronial inquiries and intervention order matters.

Brendan is a senior and highly regarded employment and workplace relations lawyer who assists public and private sector clients across a range of industry sectors. He brings a strong commercial and practical focus to the advice he gives to clients. He is an experienced litigator, having acted in state and federal jurisdictions. Brendan is able to quickly identify the real issues in dispute, give clients a frank assessment of the merits of their position and devise, with the client, a strategy to handle, defend or resolve the matter on acceptable terms.
