UK: Charities & Third Sector Briefing: Key Charity And Third Sector Issues For 2017: Data Protection And The New Charity Fundraising Panel

We are pleased to announce that our annual Charities and Third Sector Briefing will take place on Friday 24th February 2017 with guest speakers and an interactive panel session.

The main theme of the Briefing will be the data protection issues faced by charities and the impact of the new Independent Standards and Adjudications Panel for Fundraising in Scotland, supplemented by a session that picks up on what we are seeing as the key developments to be aware of across a number of other areas. MacRoberts takes pride in the fact that we are experts in providing legal advice to the modern day charity, keeping contemporary issues at the forefront of our offering.

We are delighted to welcome guest speakers Judith Turbyne – Head of Engagement with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and Alison Elliot – Chair of the new Independent Standards and Adjudications Panel for Fundraising in Scotland. We will also welcome an accountant to the event, offering further input into financial considerations and implications. In addition, MacRoberts experts will be in attendance to offer expert insights from a governance, pensions and trading & tax perspective.

  • Val Surgenor, Partner in MacRoberts, will open the session with a presentation on 'The Challenge of Data Protection Compliance in the Charities Sector.'
  • Alison Elliot, Chair of the new Independent Standards and Adjudications Panel for Fundraising in Scotland, will give an overview of the new Panel and fundraising complaints and standards.

11.20am: Briefing Session Part 2

  • In this interactive panel session, our external and internal experts will be tasked with providing short and punchy overviews of key issues and developments affecting their specialist areas – OSCR / regulatory, fundraising standards and financial considerations for the charity sector, as well as governance, pension and trading & tax. This is a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts or ask questions.

12.40pm: Q&A session followed by networking lunch
