Cayman Islands: May You Live In Interesting Times | Walkers' 2016 Review
Last Updated: 20 December 2016

There is a familiar Chinese proverb: "May you live in interesting times". We have had political "revolution" (depending on one's view) in the United Kingdom and the United States, unrelenting tragedies in Syria, a failed military coup in Turkey, Zika, the Olympics in Rio (followed by the Russian doping scandal), influential celebrities passing, and a rise in cyber-crime and hacking. 2016 has been an interesting year.

However, if we move the focus away from the overarching global stories that have kept the media busy and we focus on Walkers, it has been a busy and very positive year.

In January we officially opened up an affiliate Bermuda office – Taylors – and then in July we were able to announce our Guernsey merger with AO Hall. This now enables Walkers to boast exceptional legal capabilities in six jurisdictions.

We have had more lawyers and more practice areas ranked in the leading legal directories than ever before and were able to announce a large round of promotions within the firm. Indeed our headcount has grown to over 600 staff globally, which is the largest that Walkers has ever been.

However, what really keeps us ticking is our clients and their needs and requirements. With our global reach we have been able to host and attend many events worldwide. From the Leadenhall Building in London to Soldiers Field in Chicago, from the Harvard Club and Gramercy Theatre in New York to Barcelona and Monaco, from Guernsey, Jersey and the BVI to Hong Kong, Singapore and China, Walkers has met with hundreds, if not thousands, of clients from a wide range of industries and backgrounds. To all those we have met, we wish you every fortune in 2017.

As a final act of the year, and in case you missed them, we thought it would be interesting to display the ten most read articles from our website over the course of 2016.

We hope you enjoy and look forward to seeing you next year.
