Last Updated: 13 December 2016

Ogier has advised a leading mineral firm on its £215 million takeover by Iluka Resources Limited, creating a new major player in the mineral sands resource field.

Sierra Rutile has been operating in Sierra Leone for around 50 years. The company operates several mines in the country and its core product is natural rutile, a titanium feedstock used to manufacture white pigment for paint, paper and plastics.

Ogier advised on the BVI law aspects of the deal, working with London counsel Herbert Smith Freehills. The team was led by Global Head of Corporate, Simon Dinning and senior associate, Wendy Walker.

Simon said: "We have a strong and long standing relationship with both Sierra Rutile and indeed Herbert Smith Freehills, and have been delighted to work with them both on this significant transaction."
