United States: Brooks Kushman Shareholder Quoted In Crain’s Detroit Business
Last Updated: December 5 2016

Southfield, Mich. – Brooks Kushman Shareholder and Chair of Open Source Compliance was featured in Crain's Detroit Business' November 11, 2016 "2016 Eureka Index: Breaking with traditional technologies."

In the article, LeRoy discusses how automakers and suppliers are quickly innovating and racing to file patents for autonomous vehicles and device integration.

"The OEMs, non-OEMs, AppleAndroid  and others are jockeying for position to get access to your car console. It's a valuable piece of real estate," LeRoy said.

He also discusses the technology-based acquisitions by major automotive industries as they move towards creating autonomous vehicles.

"These acquisitions come with a significant level of intellectual property. The degree of technology that is in the automobile is generally underestimated," he said. "The F-22 Raptor Fighter Jet has 2 million lines of code and the 2017 Ford GT has 10 million lines of code. That's just the real world we are in now."

LeRoy has over 15 years of intellectual property experience, focusing on patent litigation and software, electrical and mechanical arts. He is also the Chair of Brooks Kushman's Open Source Compliance practice and has developed customized strategies for compliance with applicable open source license terms. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton, Masters if Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buffalo.
