Australia: Client Success

Nanosonics Limited (Nanosonics) specialises in the area of innovative infection control technologies. Infection control is the practice of preventing the transmission of pathogenic micro-organisms to patients or healthcare workers. It is becoming increasingly important for a variety of reasons such as an increased level of microbial resistance to many existing disinfection methods, an increased awareness of pandemics such as Avian Flu and SARS and a trend away from disposable instrumentation.

Nanosonics’ core technology involves the use of an aerosol of highly concentrated droplets of hydrogen peroxide which are smaller than any bacteria (NanoNebulant™). The NanoNebulant™ distributes evenly and quickly in an area, much like a gas, but still retains the properties of a liquid. The NanoNebulant™ can be applied to a variety of public spaces and instruments requiring decontamination, from small chambers to large rooms. The process operates in a closed system, and the devices have a built-in system which completely breaks down residual peroxide at the end of the process, yielding small quantities of water and oxygen.

Compared to existing methods, Nanosonics technology is rapid, safe to operate and has been shown to be highly effective against a broad range of pathogens. It has been validated against a range of international regulatory standards. Over the course of several years, Shelston IP has assisted Nanosonics in the development of a strategically designed suite of patent applications covering this technology.

Nanosonics recently listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX:NAN). The share offer was a major success, being heavily oversubscribed and raising $27M to further develop Nanosonics’ range of medical disinfection products. Nanosonics has also received significant grants from Ausindustry.
