Jersey: Ogier's Award-Winning Employment Lawyer Sworn In As A Jersey Advocate
Last Updated: 30 November 2016

Daniel Read from Ogier's Jersey Employment law team was sworn in as an Advocate of the Royal Court this morning.

Daniel, a senior associate who regularly appears before the Jersey Employment Tribunal, took the oath of office at the traditional full sitting of the Royal Court.

Earlier this year, he won a hat-trick of awards at the Jersey Law Society and Institute of Law's prize-giving, taking top marks in the Civil and Criminal Procedure and Succession papers in the Jersey Advocacy exams, as well as the joint top paper in the Company Law paper.

He was promoted to senior associate in the firm's mid-year round of promotions.

Nigel Sanders, the Head of Ogier's Jersey Dispute Resolution team, said: "We are delighted that Dan has been sworn in as a Jersey Advocate, particularly after his outstanding results in the Advocates' exams.

"Dan is keen to expand his advocacy experience after his years at the London bar and more recently in tribunal appearances in Jersey and we are looking forward to helping him achieve that aim.

"Dan's admission brings Ogier's number of court facing Jersey Advocates to ten, which demonstrates our strength in depth as a firm and our ongoing growth across our practice areas."

Before joining Ogier in 2013, Daniel was a Barrister at Farrar's Building specialising in employment and personal injury work.

His Jersey practice includes matters related to unfair dismissal, redundancy, contractual disputes including arguments over restrictive covenants and confidentiality clauses, health and safety, and personal injury arising out of workplace accidents.

The Chambers UK Guide 2017 named Daniel as "an associate to watch", describing him as "technically excellent" and quoting client feedback stating: "If I wanted someone to back me in a tribunal, I'd pick Dan. He can spot points that others might not."
