Perth, 22 November 2016: Clayton Utz has advised Tianqi Lithium Australia, a subsidiary of China based Tianqi Lithium Corporation, on its $400 million lithium processing plant in Kwinana, Western Australia.

Tianqi Lithium Corporation is a major shareholder of Greenbushes mine in Western Australia, which currently produces 30% of the world's lithium concentrate supply.

The Kwinana plant is expected to support the growth of Greenbushes, sourcing lithium concentrate to produce 24,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per annum for use in in the growing market for new energy products such as lithium batteries.

Corporate partner Brett Cohen led the Clayton Utz team on the matter, supported by Major Projects and Construction partner Stephen Boyle and special counsels Scott Girdler and Donna Charlesworth. The team advised Tianqi Lithium Australia on all aspects of the matter, including land tenure and construction contracts.

The Kwinana plant received final regulatory approvals last month and construction is scheduled to commence in coming weeks.
