Australia: Cooper Grace Ward hosts Advoc Asia AGM
Last Updated: 8 November 2016

Cooper Grace Ward (CGW) recently welcomed 45 guests from across the globe for the Advoc Asia AGM, hosted in Brisbane from Thursday the 19th to Sunday the 23rd of October.

Representatives from countries including the US, UK, China, India, Japan, Singapore, Italy and Poland attended the event, hosted at Brisbane's NEXT Hotel.

Advoc is a leading international network of independent law firms, with nearly 100 members from 70 countries worldwide. The network's Asia chapter meets each year in a member city, with this year marking the first time in the event's 22-year history that the meeting has taken place in Brisbane.

Hot topics for discussion during the forum included the globalisation of the profession, digital disruption, outsourcing and the changing needs of clients.

Managing Partner Chris Ward said the event was a great success, with delegates embracing the opportunity to discover new insights into the legal landscape and build international relationships.

'With such a diverse group of delegates in attendance, it was a great opportunity to explore current issues affecting the Australian and Asian economies, as well as international issues such as Brexit, the US elections and the EU,' he said.

The AGM was accompanied by a business session featuring guest presentations from QIC CEO Damien Frawley, Morgans Chairman Brian Sheahan and Beaton Capital Partner David Goener.

'The delegates were overwhelmed by the breadth and depth of knowledge of our guest speakers, not only in relation to Australia and Asia but the world at large,' he said.

The CGW team was also delighted to have the opportunity provide guests with a taste of local hospitality and lifestyle, with a program of social activities including visits to the Gallery of Modern Art, City Hall, Court of Appeal and a day-trip to Noosa.

'It was a terrific opportunity to showcase our region and reciprocate the wonderful hospitality we have experienced at other Advoc events,' he said.

'The feedback from delegates has been universally appreciative, enthusiastic and complimentary of our city and CGW.'
