United States: Leading IP Partners Co-Present Mock Markman Hearing at 2007 Patent Claim Construction Forum
Last Updated: January 19 2007

Two of Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner's leading Intellectual Property attorneys will be giving a special presentation at this year's Patent Claim Construction Advanced Legal Forum. Silicon Valley-based partner Robert E. Krebs will join New York-based partner Frederick L. Whitmer in co-presenting a mock hearing of Markman v. Westview Instruments, Inc. (1996), which yielded a landmark decision from the U.S. Supreme Court on technology patents.

Two federal judges, the Honorable Matthew F. Kennelly, U.S. District Court for the District of Northern Illinois (CA), and the Honorable James M. Rosenbaum, U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota (DC), will join our senior litigators as they argue a mock Markman hearing before Judge Kennelly. Throughout the hearing, Krebs and Whitmer will seek input from the audience on the case, procedure, and patents law.

Following the hearing, the judges will discuss how they conduct hearings in their courtrooms, the mistakes they've seen litigators make, and the litigation strategies that have proven successful.

The Mock Markman Hearing will be held in Palo Alto, California on Friday, January 19 from 9-11:30 a.m.

Mr. Whitmer and Mr. Krebs will repeat their Mock Markman Hearing at the Patent Claim Construction Forum in Washington, DC on March 12-13, 2007.
