Private rulings have historically been a useful and important tool for clarifying and protecting clients' tax positions. However, the ATO's attitude towards private rulings is changing, and recent cases graphically illustrate that the consequences of not getting the private ruling application correct from the start can be quite significant.

As a result, clients should consider carefully whether the private ruling process is appropriate and, when it is, that it is managed correctly.

In this webinar, we will look at:

  • when to use private rulings – and when not to use private rulings
  • alternatives we have used to solve clients' issues
  • why it is so important to get the private ruling application right
  • common pitfalls and traps in private ruling applications
  • how to deal with unfavourable rulings.
