Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright grows employment and labour team with new partner in Perth
Last Updated: 13 July 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced employment and labour lawyer Samantha Maddern has joined as a partner in Perth.

Ms Maddern joins from Herbert Smith Freehills, where she worked for nearly five years managing a wide range of workplace relations matters for clients in industries such as oil and gas, mining and tertiary education. Before that she worked for a number of years at Corrs Chambers Westgarth.

Ms Maddern will add more depth to both our West Australian and national employment and labour offering, including in occupational health and safety advice. She has considerable experience in advising on organisational change, enterprise bargaining, executive hiring and firing, equal opportunity and diversity, unfair and unlawful terminations and industrial disputes.

Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, said the addition of Ms Maddern will inject more talent into the partnership, coming soon after the July 1 promotion of six new partners.

"Samantha is a well-known and highly experienced workplace advisor in the Perth market, with strong links to major companies in the energy and mining industries. Beyond the contribution she will make to our national employment and labour team, we also look forward to her continuing to develop her passion for mentoring, thought leadership, volunteering and pro bono work."

Ms Maddern commented:

"What appealed to me in joining an elite global law firm like Norton Rose Fulbright was its global commitment to the core industries of energy and mining. There is a strong alignment between my existing major clients and the firm's, many of which are active in the West Australian market. I was also attracted by Norton Rose Fulbright's serious commitment to corporate social responsibility and workplace diversity."

Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia has added five other lateral partners since January 2016: Peter Lamont, Ellen Thomas, Jacques Jacobs, Samantha Kelly and Peter Bowden.
