Last Updated: 13 June 2016

Corrs Chambers Westgarth has been named the sixth most innovative law firm headquartered in Asia Pacific in the 2016 FT innovation awards.

Corrs was recognised for its innovation across a range of areas, including the firm's technology and flexible work options, as well as its work on complex M&A deals.

Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton AO said the firm was committed to pioneering new ways of working within the legal industry and providing the best possible outcomes for its clients and its people.

"Innovation has long been a top priority for Corrs and we are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways of doing things across all areas of our business," Mr. Denton said.

"From the strategic legal counsel we provide, to creating efficiencies through technology and systems, to flexible working arrangements and collaborative, open plan office space, innovation is at the heart of everything we do."

Corrs was highly commended in the Technology category for moving its legal technology, analytics and document review platforms to the cloud, enabling the firm to provide a significantly faster and cheaper service to clients.

The firm was also highly commended in the Business of Law category for its broad and effective programme to make flexible work options a standard business practice available to all lawyers and staff at Corrs.

In the Corporate and Commercial category, Corrs was commended for developing a strategy involving a unique asset sale and buy-back structure and a case with the Australian takeover panel to help Affinity Education foil a hostile takeover bid by GB Education. The firm was also commended for its negotiation of the terms that governed Zijin Mining's strategic partnership with Barrick Gold and the acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in Barrick's gold mine in Papua New Guinea
