United States: Representing Taxpayers Before The IRS And DOR
Last Updated: June 8 2016

Tax Briefings 2016 (3:30 - 4:00 p.m.)

Sullivan & Worcester Conference Center, Boston, MA
June 22, 2016 (3:30 - 5:45 p.m.)

Sullivan & Worcester will host a Tax Briefings seminar, "Representing Taxpayers Before the IRS and DOR," on June 22 led by speakers Joseph B. Darby III and Richard L. Jones of Sullivan & Worcester. The speakers will examine the "hot button" issues that are the particular focus of IRS and DOR audit scrutiny.

Taxes, as Benjamin Franklin famously noted, are one of the two certainties in life, and where there are taxes there are, inevitably, tax audits. This program will examine the complex procedures and high-stakes strategies of representing taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.

The topics addressed will include:

  • The process of tax compliance, from the filing of returns, through the audit and appeals process, and, when a reasonable settlement is not possible, into the world of tax litigation
  • How to resolve and settle tax controversies as early and as cost-effectively as possible, including identifying when an appeal or tax litigation are necessary and appropriate
  • A review of the efficacy of collection strategies, including offers in compromise, installment payment arrangements, and the opportunities to assert the innocent spouse defense.

Before the tax man cometh, come join us for this high level and sophisticated insight into the U.S. tax process.
