Canada: Rick Nathan Named Head Of Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association
Last Updated: December 6 2005

Goodmans LLP is pleased to congratulate Rick Nathan, Managing Director of the firm’s Goodmans Venture Group division, on his appointment as President of Canada’s Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA). Rick’s appointment became effective September 23 at the CVCA’s annual general meeting in Toronto.

Rick brings a broad perspective as well as extensive experience in the industry to the President’s role, as an advisor of both emerging growth companies and investment firms.

Before joining Goodmans, Rick was one of three founding partners of Brightspark, an early-stage investment fund and software development group formed in Toronto in 1999. Prior to founding Brightspark, Rick spent more than 10 years as a corporate and securities lawyer at another major Canadian law firm, including a term as leader its Technology Business Group during the technology boom of the late 1990s.

Rick’s involvement in the Canadian venture capital industry also includes serving as a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the CVCA since 1999. He is also a Director of the Centre for Innovation Law and Policy at the University of Toronto, a member of the Canadian e-Business Opportunities Roundtable and a member of the Canadian Bar Association.

Founded in 1974, the CVCA is a member-based organization consisting of venture capital firms and organizations that manage pools of risk capital designated for investment in small and medium-sized growth businesses in Canada. With over 1,000 members, the CVCA represents the majority of venture capital and private equity invested in Canadian-based companies. Its mission is to facilitate the development of the Canadian venture capital and private equity industry.

Goodmans Venture Group provides legal counsel and strategic business advice to entrepreneurs, emerging growth companies and investors in the Canadian market. Goodmans LLP is recognized internationally as one of Canada’s premier transaction law firms.
