Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright grows Insolvency and Restructuring team with new partner
Last Updated: 6 June 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced insolvency and restructuring lawyer Peter Bowden is joining as a partner in Melbourne.

Mr Bowden joins from Clayton Utz, where he worked for about five years after stints with Blake Dawson in Melbourne and Ashurst in Tokyo. An Australian and UK qualified lawyer, he has significant experience advising banks, insolvency practitioners, hedge funds, creditors and debtors on restructuring, insolvency, workouts, banking and distressed debt transactions. He has also developed a broad practice in industries such as mining, mining services, property, construction, agriculture and manufacturing.

Mr Bowden's appointment follows the promotion on May 1 of new restructuring and insolvency partners Jeffery Black (Perth) and Tim Mornane (Sydney) as part of 37 global partner promotions and two promotions to the South African equivalent of director.

Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, said the addition of Mr Bowden would be a fillip to our busy national financial restructuring and insolvency team.

"This has been a big year for our restructuring and insolvency team, especially given the leading role we have played in a number of major matters including the Forge Group and Dick Smith receiverships. Bringing Peter on board in Melbourne to sit alongside the national head of the team, Steven Palmer, together with the promotions of Tim Mornane and Jeffery Black, will add considerable depth to our national capability."

Mr Bowden commented:

"This is a great time to be joining global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright and its respected restructuring and insolvency team. There are close synergies between my relationships with major banks, insolvency practitioners and hedge funds and those of the firm. The firm's focus on mining, infrastructure, agribusiness and real estate provides me with significant opportunities to deploy my restructuring and insolvency skills in those sectors of the market that are currently experiencing distress."

Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia has added 12 additional lateral partners since January 2015: John Elliott, Andrea Rezos, Emanuel Confos, Benny Bernarto (Jakarta), Nadia Soraya (Jakarta), Mark Attard, Brett Solomon, Peter Lamont, Ellen Thomas, Jacques Jacobs, Samantha Kelly and Global Head of our Energy practice Simon Currie (from Norton Rose Fulbright in London).
