Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright appoints new chair of its Australian Partnership Council
Last Updated: 20 May 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that Asia-Pacific head of insurance Tricia Hobson has been appointed chair of the firm's Australian Partnership Council for a three-year term, commencing 1 July 2016.

She takes over from Sydney corporate partner Adrian Ahern, who has been chair of the Australian Partnership Council for the last four years and served as global chair in 2013-14.

Ms Hobson is a prominent and long-standing adviser to the global insurance industry and will continue running our successful insurance practice in the Asia-Pacific region. She was appointed Asia Pacific head of insurance in January 2013, a reflection of the size and scale of her practice and the success of our regional insurance offering.

She specialises in complex coverage disputes and as lead defence counsel on class actions and difficult/multi-party litigation, predominantly in the financial services and construction industries. She has acted in many high profile directors and officers disputes, as well as a range of other insurance matters including professional indemnity, warranty & indemnity, cyber risk and product development. She has a particular interest in innovation and is leading a number of client innovation initiatives which are examining and addressing the changing face of the legal and insurance industries.

Ms Hobson was also made a member of Norton Rose Fulbright's Global Supervisory Board last year and is the Australian senior sponsor, sexual orientation and gender identity, supporting the LGBTI community.

Norton Rose Fulbright global chief executive Peter Martyr commented:

"I congratulate Tricia on her appointment as chair of the Australian Partnership Council. Tricia will play an important role in the continued evolution and success of our firm in Australia and around the world in the years ahead."

Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia Wayne Spanner commented:

"Tricia is one of our most successful partners and makes an enormous contribution to the firm. This is not just through the strength of her practice and the insurance teams she oversees, but as a senior female leader and champion of important diversity and inclusion initiatives such as sexual orientation.

"Her appointment as chair of our Australian Partnership Council is thoroughly deserved and I look forward to working with Tricia and our other senior partners as we solidify our firm's standing in the Asia-Pacific. I also pay tribute to Adrian Ahern for the vast contribution he has made in his four years in the role, as well as his time as global chair."

Ms Hobson commented:

"It is an honour to be appointed to this important role at a time of great change in the legal profession. Throughout my career I have witnessed a transformation in the way we help our clients and understand their industries, as well as in our approach to recruiting and retaining our lawyers and nurturing their careers.

"I am very pleased to be able to continue this work through this appointment. Being part of an international business, I also see the importance of globalisation and having deep links in regions around the world on a daily basis. I am looking forward to working with my global colleagues to continue to deliver the very best for our clients in every region.

"Through my involvement with our diversity and inclusion groups, and as a senior female leader in the firm, something that remains incredibly important to me is ensuring that we allow our people to be their full selves at work and give them every opportunity to realise their potential. Supporting our next generation of leaders will be a key focus for me in this role."
