Last Updated: 18 May 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that former Secretary of the Commonwealth's Attorney-General's Department, Roger Wilkins AO, has been appointed as Senior Advisor.

Mr Wilkins has significant experience across a number of government, corporate and regulatory roles. He was Secretary to the A-G's Department from 2008 to 2014, serving under Robert McClelland, Nicola Roxon, Mark Dreyfus QC and Senator George Brandis QC.

He has served as President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) from July 2014. FATF, an intergovernmental organisation founded in 1989 on the initiative of the G7, sets standards and promotes effective implementation of legal, regulatory and operational measures for combating money laundering, terrorist financing and other related threats to the integrity of the international financial system. He is also a current visiting fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.

Mr Wilkins is the former head of the Government and Public Sector Group Australia and New Zealand at Citigroup (2006 to 2008); and Director-General of the NSW Cabinet Office (1992 to 2006), playing a leading role in areas of reform in administration and law, corporatisation and microeconomics.
During his career he has also chaired a number of national taskforces and committees, including the COAG Committee on Regulatory Reform, the National Health Taskforce on Mental Health, and the National Emissions Trading Taskforce.

Norton Rose Fulbright managing partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, commented:

"The global management of risk is a major concern for many of our international and domestic clients, especially those who work across jurisdictions or in industries, such as financial services, facing increasing regulatory focus. As a senior advisor to the firm, Roger Wilkins will make a fine addition to our global risk advisory practice and offer further support to our most important clients in this complex area."

Mr Wilkins commented:

"Global law firms are uniquely placed to manage risk, particularly those with a depth of experience in the United States, which drives much of the regulatory enforcement around the world. I am pleased to be taking on this special role with an elite firm like Norton Rose Fulbright and look forward to assisting its clients with their management of risk wherever they may operate."
