UK: Richard Lewis Joins Lovells
Last Updated: 30 July 2001

Lovells' international corporate practice is being strengthened further with the lateral hire of Richard Lewis, previously with Clifford Chance, as a partner based in the firm's London office. He joins Lovells in September.

The appointment is the latest in a series of 12 partner-level appointments to Lovells' international corporate practice over the last three months, as part of the firm's development of this key practice area (details in notes to editors).

Richard Lewis (34), was formerly with Clifford Chance. He has specialised in corporate finance work and has experience of a range of transactions including public bids, demergers and listings, working both for corporate clients and for financial institutions.

Hugh Nineham, head of Lovells' corporate practice, said:

"We saw Richard in action recently on an important transaction which we were on the other side, and were much impressed. We are always pleased when lawyers of his calibre choose to make their careers with us: we take it as a sign of confidence in our client base, our people and our strategy for development. His appointment is a further step in our drive to increase the relative size of our corporate team in the all-important European (and, in particular, UK) market.

Market conditions may have led to a reduction in the number of new equity issues and public M&A deals, but, where resources are concerned, you have to look to the long term. That is why we have continued to strengthen our international corporate practice through a mixture of organic growth, lateral hire and merger. Our clients are always pleased when talented people join the team; they will feel the benefits even more when the market picks up again."

Richard Lewis commented:

"Lovells is clearly a firm on the move, offering great opportunities to those like me who really want to make their mark. Like many of my peers, I have been struck by the recent growth of the corporate practice, and the quality of the work that it is doing; I also sense that Lovells' international expansion, notably in Europe, is bedding down well. It will be good to be a part of all this."

Notes To Editors

The 12 recent partner-level appointments to Lovells' international corporate practice are:
