United States: The National Law Journal Names Christopher Roe Among Energy And Environmental Trailblazers
Last Updated: April 27 2016

Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce that Christopher M. Roe has been named to The National Law Journal's 2016 list of Energy and Environmental Law Trailblazers.

The award honors legal professionals that have impacted the crucial intersection of energy production and the environment. Honorees were selected from hundreds of nominated attorneys.

Roe was noted as a trailblazer for taking a leading role in helping shape the guidelines for a key issue in environmental law -- the evaluation and mitigation of vapor intrusion (VI), the process by which chemicals in soil or groundwater migrate to indoor air.

Throughout the last decade, Roe has been an authoritative voice on evolving VI guidance and is frequently called upon to lecture and author, both nationally and in Pennsylvania, on the issue.

Roe has advised clients regarding VI, in multiple jurisdictions, since 2003. His proactive, pro bono, work with VI guidelines began in 2008 when he joined the ASTM International and lobbied against its proposed Standard Practice for VI Screening. His position made an impact, and ASTM later turned to Roe for help in revising and replacing the VI Standard with the current Standard Guide for Vapor Encroachment. Later, he helped petition USEPA for the public's right to review and provide comment on USEPA's revised draft VI guidance and he has contributed to Pennsylvania's ongoing effort to update its guidance.

Co-chair of Fox's Environmental Practice Group, Roe focuses his practice on the environment, chemical handling and exposure, compliance, transactions and litigation, including mass tort defense. He provides practical advice to clients in the acquisition and disposition of businesses and assets and the redevelopment of brownfield sites; counsels clients on emerging health and safety, air, water and waste compliance issues, including as to so-called "emerging contaminants," including PFCs; and assists clients in evaluating and communicating about environmental risks. Additionally, he represents clients in enforcement matters and environment and exposure-related matters in administrative proceedings and state and federal courts.

Roe is a past president of the Delaware Valley Environmental American Inn of Court and past co-chair of the Philadelphia Bar Association's Environmental Law Committee. He continues to be a member of ASTM International's Subcommittee on Real Estate Assessment and Management.

Roe earned his J.D. from Temple University School of Law and his B.A. from George Washington University.
