United States: Swidler Berlin LLP Elects New Partners and Of Counsel
Promotions Underscore Firm’s Reinvigorated Strategic Focus

Swidler Berlin LLP announced today the election of six partners and four new Of Counsel, reinforcing the Firm’s intensified focus on key practice groups and its commitment to continuing to grow a blue-chip partnership built around its core strengths.

The attorneys elected to the partnership include:

David M. Lubitz practices in litigation and heads up the Firm’s pro bono practice, an area of great importance to Swidler as it makes good on its commitment to individuals and non-profit organizations, and to resolve high-impact community issues.

Sean A. Atkins specializes in energy law, including federal and state regulation of electric utilities. He represents investor-owned electric utilities and a large regional independent system operator as regulatory counsel before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission ("FERC").

Robert C. Bertin, represents clients in a variety of IP matters including patent applications, litigation, infringement and validity, and due diligence, among others.

Ulises R. Pin has been active in the representation of U.S. and international telecommunications companies in Mexico and Latin America. Among other issues, Mr. Pin has advised on local, long distance and international communications, value-added services, infrastructure projects (land and submarine networks), and wireless communications.

David Tiger concentrates on commercial real estate and complex real estate transactions. He has represented commercial and residential owners, builders, developers, and investment funds in all aspects of acquisition, disposition, financing, development, construction, leasing, and project restructuring.

C. Joel Van Over represents technology companies in all aspects of government contracting, including proposals, federal compliance, and litigation of a wide variety of issues before federal and administrative courts.

The following attorneys were promoted to Of Counsel:

Gary G. Gallant is a member of the Firm’s government affairs group, focusing on telecommunications issues before Congress. He has successfully worked on the Hill on matters involving Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), local phone service competition, reciprocal compensation, access to unbundled network elements (UNEs), spectrum allocation, and digital music copyright policies.

Scott J. Levitt is a member of the Firm’s insurance coverage group. His multidisciplinary practice supports corporate policyholders in multi-million dollar recovery claims.

Melike S. Oncu is a member of the Firm’s corporate practice group and works with clients to implement innovative strategic business plans.

Michael A. Schwartz is a member of the Firm’s intellectual property group. He has handled patent applications in a wide variety of electrical/software related fields for clients that include IBM, AT&T and Lucent.
