Australia: IJ Global Awards haul for Norton Rose Fulbright with 15 wins

  • Firm advises on 15 'Deal of the Year' awards globally
  • Big successes in mining with four accolades , and oil and gas with three award wins
  • Solar, telecoms and water teams each receive two awards

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised on fifteen deals that were awarded "Deal of the Year" at IJ Global award ceremonies celebrating work across the Asia Pacific, Europe and Africa, Americas, and Middle East regions this month.

The IJ Global awards recognise the best energy, infrastructure and mining deals from around the world over the past year.

Asia Pacific (awarded on March 3, 2016)

>M&A Deal of the Year - Australia - Advising two of the equity participants in the consortium that purchased Transgrid in the $10 billion-plus privatisation in New South Wales. Led by Adrian Ahern and John Elliott.

Metals and Mining Deal of the Year – Indonesia - Advising ASX-listed Finders Resources on its US$165 million project financing for the Wetar Copper project in Indonesia. Led by Chris Redden.

Ports Deal of the Year - Indonesia - Advising Indonesia Ports Corporation (Pelindo II) on its multi-billion dollar Kalibaru (New Priok) port project in Jakarta. Led by Tasdikiah Siregar and Ross Ramsay.

Refinancing Deal of the Year - Singapore – Advising SportsHub Pte Ltd on the refinancing of one of the world's largest sports and leisure infrastructure PPPs. Led by Nick Merritt.

Telecoms Deal of the Year – Australia – Advising the Macquarie-led consortium on its acquisition of Crown Castle Australia's $2 billion mobile telecommunications tower business. Led by Nigel Deed, Adrian Ahern and Chris Redden.

Europe and Africa (awarded on March 10, 2016)

European Mining and Metals Deal of the Year – Turkey - Advising the lenders in respect of the financing for the expansion of the Çöpler Gold Mine in Turkey. Led by Martin McCann.

European Oil and Gas Deal of the Year – Azerbaijan - Advising the lenders of international financial institutions in relation to a $1 billion project financing to Lukoil in the second stage of the Shah Deniz gas development project in Azerbaijan. Led by Charles Whitney.

European Solar Deal of the Year – UK - Advising specialist investment manager AMP Capital in relation to its £37 million mezzanine loan as part of the £284 million refinancing of a 101MW portfolio of 33 operational UK solar projects, owned and operated by Lightsource Renewable Energy Holdings Limited. Led by Tomas Gärdfors.

European Water Deal of the Year - UK - Advising The Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat) on the award of the project licence to Bazalgette Tunnel Limited (Bazalgette) to build, own, finance and maintain the landmark £4.2bn Thames Tideway sewer project. Led by Peter Hall.

African Mining and Metals Deal of the Year - Burkina Faso – Advising Roxgold Inc on the US$75 million financing of its key asset, the high grade, low cost Yaramoko Gold Project, located in the Houndé greenstone belt of Burkina Faso, West Africa. Led by Martin McCann.

African Oil & Gas Deal of the Year – Angola - Advising a national oil company on the $1.75 billion acquisition from Cobalt International Energy Angola Ltd (Cayman Islands) of its entire interest in Blocks 20 and 21 offshore Angola. Led by Erol Huseyin and Kimberley Wood.

African Telecoms Deal of the Year – Burkino Faso - Advising Societe Generale and BNP Paribas on the financing of the acquisition by Eaton Towers Burkina Faso SA of Bharti Airtel's approximately 700 telecommunication towers in Burkina Faso. Led by Daniel Metcalfe.

Americas (awarded on March 16, 2016)

Mining and Metals Deal of the Year – Canada – Advising a syndicate of Canadian and international lenders on the financing of the Gahcho Kue Diamond mine in the Northwest Territories, Canada. Led by Martin McCann and Geoffrey G Gilbert.

Middle East and North Africa (awarded on March 21, 2016)

Solar Deal of the Year - Dubai - Advising DEWA in respect of the financing, procurement, construction operation and maintenance of a 200MW solar photovoltaic plant at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. First renewable IPP for DEWA and Dubai. Led by Paul Mansouri.

Water Deal of the Year – Saudi Arabia - Advising the lenders in relation to the project financing of the construction of a district cooling and potable water project at King Khaled International Airport in Saudi Arabia, Led by Joanne Emerson Taqi.
