Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright grows tax team with experienced partner in Sydney
Last Updated: 4 March 2016

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced tax lawyer Ellen Thomas has joined as a partner in Sydney.

Ms Thomas is a respected advisor on international, corporate and banking tax issues across a broad range of industries. She has advised on complex global and domestic mergers and acquisitions transactions, corporate restructures, post-acquisition integrations, international tax planning, distressed debt transactions, infrastructure investments and financial arrangements. She also has extensive experience in dealing with the Australian Taxation Office, including in relation to ruling applications, audits and dispute resolution.

She was most recently a partner in the Sydney tax team at Baker & McKenzie. Before holding that role she was a senior lawyer for many years at King & Wood Mallesons.

Norton Rose Fulbright Managing Partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, welcomed the addition of Ms Thomas, with her history of advising on complex, international tax issues and close familiarity with three of our six global priority industry areas: financial institutions, technology and innovation, and infrastructure, mining and commodities.

"Strong tax advice is an essential part of any corporate law offering. We are delighted to have Ellen join us, bringing with her a proven history in complex international tax advice, strong ties to many of our clients' core industries, and mentoring of talented female lawyers."

Ms Thomas commented:

"I have closely watched Norton Rose Fulbright's standing in the market and the rise of its global brand and recognition among corporate clients. It is clear to me that my background in domestic and global tax advice in areas such as technology, financial institutions and infrastructure will be a great match for the firm's Australian and international tax, and broader corporate, practices."

Norton Rose Fulbright in Australia has added nine additional lateral partners in the last year: John Elliott, Andrea Rezos, Emanuel Confos, Benny Bernarto (Jakarta), Nadia Soraya (Jakarta), Mark Attard, Brett Solomon, Peter Lamont and Global Head of our Energy practice Simon Currie (from Norton Rose Fulbright in London).
