Jersey: Hat Trick Of Awards For Top Jersey Law Student Daniel Read
Last Updated: 4 February 2016

Ogier's Daniel Read received three awards at the Jersey Law Society and Institute of Law's prizegiving last week - the first student of the Jersey Advocacy exams to be awarded three prizes in one year.

Daniel, a member of Ogier's Dispute Resolution team, got top marks in the Civil and Criminal Procedure paper in the Jersey Advocacy exams. He also gained top marks in the Succession paper and joint top in the Company Law paper.

Daniel took the exams in June last year and was awarded the prizes on 28 January by the Deputy Bailiff, Timothy Le Cocq, who is President of the Board of Examiners.

Daniel is an English-qualified Barrister (non-practising) who spent five years at the UK Bar before moving to Jersey in 2013. Now studying to become a Jersey Advocate, Daniel specialises in employment law and regularly appears before the Jersey Employment Tribunal.

Ogier partner Nigel Sanders said: "The exams required to qualify as a Jersey Advocate are notoriously challenging and so for Daniel to achieve top marks is testament to his hard work and commitment. That he gained top marks in three out of the four exams he sat is an outstanding achievement by Daniel and one that will be hard to follow.

"Daniel has been a member of Ogier's Jersey Dispute Resolution team for coming up to three years and over that time has developed not only his employment law expertise but a broader commercial practice, as well as being a member of our regulatory practice group. Qualifying as an Advocate will be an important milestone for Daniel and our team and we wish him every success for the rest of the exams he will be taking this summer."

Chairman of the Institute of Law's Governing Body, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache said: "The Institute is delighted at the overall high standards achieved by our students and particularly pleased by some outstanding results."
