Australia: Staying in touch with Government
Last Updated: 15 January 2016

Conference, seminars and fortnightly newsletter

As well as the annual Government lawyers conference (the next conference will be 23 February 2016), we run ad-hoc seminars specifically tailored for Government lawyers and we produce a fortnightly Government Bulletin, containing news and analysis relevant to NSW Government lawyers.

If you wish to be added to the circulation list for Government Bulletin and receive details of upcoming seminars, please send an email to

Thought Leadership Series

For senior Government lawyers we run an invitation only Thought Leadership Series where we host guest speakers, such as:

  • (in 2014) Ian Temby QC (the first ICAC Commissioner and first Commonwealth DPP), the NSW Privacy Commissioner Dr Elizabeth Coombs and the Cth Disability and Age Discrimination Commissioner Susan Ryan; and
  • (in 2015) Jim Betts, CEO of Infrastructure NSW and Professor Michael Regan of ARRB Group (formerly the Australian Road Research Board).

We will be starting our 2016 series with His Honour Magistrate Michael Barnes (NSW Coroner) on 9 March - look out for your invitation in the new year.

Holding Redlich was proud to be the major sponsor of the NSW Law Society's 2015 Government Solicitors Conference in September which saw more than 130 government solicitors gather in Sydney. Holding Redlich general counsel and privacy expert Lyn Nicholson was a key speaker, discussing data regulation and stakeholder management.

We also host a LinkedIn group for NSW Government lawyers, through which we distribute Government Bulletin, seminar invitations and the invitation to our annual Government lawyers conference. Search "NSW Government lawyers" under groups in LinkedIn.

In-house seminars

During 2015 we were invited to present:

  • 'as part of the TfNSW CPD program on legal research for Government lawyers and enforcing your rights in an insolvency situation; and''
  • to NSW Police on statements of reasons for decisions.

Our national knowledge manager regularly presents to NSW Government lawyers on free access online legal research tools and is available to conduct bespoke training on request. We would be happy to conduct a tailored seminar on a topic of your agency's choosing.
