Guernsey: Ogier Launches Property Law Team In Guernsey
Last Updated: 7 December 2015

Recently named the leading property law adviser in Jersey, Ogier has extended its property law capability into Guernsey.

The firm's market leading Jersey team – ranked in a tier of its own by Chambers & Partners 2016 – is also extending its expertise in Jersey to include specialists in planning and construction law.

These areas are core services of the firm's new Guernsey team, recently launched under the leadership of renowned property lawyer Advocate Martyn Baudains.

The extended team also enhances Ogier's range of services to businesses local to the Channel Islands.

Martyn Baudains has joined Ogier as a Guernsey partner. He is rated as one of only three leading property lawyers in Guernsey by the Legal 500 for 2016. The legal commentator says he 'has a superb wealth of knowledge' and 'will find a solution to any problem'.

'Martyn has a reputation for providing a highly effective and efficient service in respect of property deals, whether they are simple or complex,' said Jonathan Hughes, who heads Ogier's top tier Property Law Group.

The team has been further strengthened by the appointment of senior lawyer Claire Smith, a planning, construction, property and public law specialist who joined Ogier from international law firm Eversheds.

Claire previously worked in Guernsey for a number of years, acting for Guernsey and Channel Islands developers, architects, real estate investors and corporate occupiers. She has more than 15 years' experience specialising in planning, environment, construction, property, public law and major projects.

Alison Ricketts, a conveyancer with more than 20 years' experience of the Guernsey market, has also joined Ogier.

Finance partner Christopher Jones – who has extensive experience in respect of finance for the acquisition and development of residential and commercial real estate, together with the related security – adds further weight to the team.

Jonathan Hughes, who also leads Ogier's Local Legal Services across the Channel Islands said: 'From feedback we know that clients value our commercial approach, speed of response and pragmatism - and we're very pleased to see that has been reflected in the latest rankings by leading legal researchers

Chambers & Partners, who placed our Jersey team in a tier of their own; clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Establishing a Guernsey team is an exciting development and strengthens Ogier's offering to local businesses and private clients.'

Ogier's property team acts for buyers, sellers, developers, funders, landlords and tenants providing advice on the purchase, development, sale and lease of commercial and residential properties located in Jersey and Guernsey.

As well as acting for local businesses in all sectors, private clients and individuals in the Channel Islands, Ogier's Property Law Group works closely with intermediaries and government bodies in relation to inward investment to the Islands.
