Jersey: Ogier Launches 2016/2017 Bursary Scheme And Trainee Solicitor Programme For Channel Island Students
Last Updated: 23 October 2015

Ogier has launched its 2016 Bursary Scheme and 2016 & 2017 Trainee Solicitor Programme.

The law firm is inviting applications from Channel Island students in Year 13 (or equivalent), or higher education to apply for the schemes which offer financial help and practical support, together with the formal training required by students aiming to become lawyers.

Ogier's Group Resourcing Manager Carla Jost said: "Ogier has exciting opportunities for Jersey and Guernsey students at all stages in their education to help develop their skills in legal practice and to formally progress their careers.  We are also able to invite students from outside of the Channel Islands to apply for our Paralegal opportunities and Trainee Solicitor programme in Jersey.

"Our Bursary is awarded to a number of students in Jersey and Guernsey each year. This is ideal for students embarking on a career in law, who wish to gain valuable work experience.  The scheme also assists them financially with their university studies and offers professional support, with plenty of careers advice available from our team of lawyers.

Ogier's Bursary scheme is open to students due to sit their A Levels (or equivalent) in 2016, as well as students already at university or undertaking GDL / LPC / Bar School studies.

"For those who are further along in their training, our England & Wales Trainee Solicitor programme is a two year training contract which provides the formal training required  to enable individuals to qualify as a Solicitor of England & Wales.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to qualify, whilst living and working in the Channel Islands.  Our programme is very competitive and akin to the training contracts in the City, being fully regulated by the SRA.  Trainees learn and gain valuable knowledge about a number of practice areas within Ogier, as they are rotated for a period of months through several departments.

"We are also always interested to hear from motivated students and those embarking on a career in Law, who may be interested in our variety of Paralegal options, particularly available to people who would rather work full time and progress their careers via distance learning."

The Trainee Solicitor Programme operates to the standards set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and provides training based on rotations in different departments, which are known as 'seats'. Each seat lasts for 3, 6 or 9 months over the two year training contract.

Our requirements for applicants of both schemes, depending on their stage of development, are:

  • Two A grades and one B Grade at A-Level or higher, or the equivalent in UCAS points.
  • A degree classification of 2:1 or above.
  • Minimum of a Commendation at GDL level
  • Minimum of a Commendation in your LPC

To apply please contact us at Closing date is the end of January 2016
