Australia: Norton Rose Fulbright bolsters debt capital markets team with senior lawyer in Sydney
Last Updated: 20 October 2015

Global legal practice Norton Rose Fulbright announced today that experienced debt capital markets lawyer James Morris has joined as a special counsel in Sydney.

Mr Morris was most recently a counsel at Ashurst, where he has been for nine years. He has also worked with Clifford Chance in London.

Mr Morris has acted for major Australian and international corporations and financial institutions as arrangers and issuers in unsecured and securitised debt transactions. He also acts on corporate trust and receivables financing transactions work and provides Australian regulatory advice.

Ranked as a debt capital markets lawyer in Chambers Global, he has been praised for his "expertise in international and domestic capital markets" work and for having strong "international experience and receptiveness to clients' needs".

Norton Rose Fulbright Managing Partner in Australia, Wayne Spanner, said the appointment of Mr Morris would further our aim to build a deep debt capital markets offering across the world.

"This appointment is timely given the global move towards increasing use of alternative forms of financing instead of, or with, traditional bank debt," he said. "James will be a considerable asset to our successful national banking and finance practice."

Mr Morris commented:

"I have admired what Norton Rose Fulbright has been able to achieve in Australia over the past five years and the breadth and depth of its global network, and am delighted to be joining the practice. But what drew me in particular to its banking and finance team was its desire to expand its debt capital markets offering and continue to assist some of the very best financial institutions in Australia and abroad."
