UK: Wragge & Co Real Estate Advises Matthew Boulton College On £37.9 Million Move To Eastside
Last Updated: 22 April 2004

5 January 2004 - Wragge & Co LLP Real Estate Group advised Matthew Boulton College of Further & Higher Education on its groundbreaking deal to secure an 18,000 square metre site for brand new premises at Birmingham’s Eastside. Matthew Boulton College was able to fund its move having successfully bid for a £13.2 million grant from the Learning & Skills Council, the highest ever awarded to a further education college. Work has already begun on constructing the new state-of-the art building complete with an unrivalled IT suite, and media and health facilities for 15,000 students and 600 staff.

Matthew Boulton College has sold its existing site to Advantage West Midlands for re-development in July 2004. Details for the site are yet to be agreed but are likely to involve a mixed use development.

Real estate partner Peter Thorne led the legal team with associates John Howell and Greg Norton advising on planning, LSC and ERDF funding.

Wragge & Co has advised Matthew Boulton College – which is one of Birmingham’s oldest further education colleges and winner of the 2002 Queen’s Anniversary Prize for educational achievement and training – on strategic projects since its transfer from the Education Council in 1999.

The Real Estate Group was appointed to this project following a presentation of the issues to the college’s project team.

Mike O’Sullivan, a partner at Mills & Reeve, advised Aston University. Hammonds partner Anne O’Meara advised Advantage West Midlands.
