Bermuda: First Global Offshore Law Group With Major Presence in Bermuda and Cayman Islands Begins Operations
Last Updated: 2 April 2004

April 1, 2004 – The global offshore law Group, Appleby Spurling Hunter, began operations today as the first law organization with a major presence in both Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. The Group reflects the combination of Appleby Spurling & Kempe and Hunter & Hunter, two law firms with strong reputations in their respective jurisdictions. Appleby Spurling Hunter, with 430 lawyers and staff worldwide, also boasts offices in the British Virgin Islands and the major financial centres of Hong Kong and London. The group has a very broad and unique reach among offshore law firms, providing significant benefits to clients.

"Since announcing our combination in mid-January, clients have responded very favourably to the new possibilities," said Group Managing Partner, Peter Bubenzer. "Our goal is to make it easier and more cost-effective for our clients to manage obtaining their legal advice and administering their companies in multiple jurisdictions. This will be accomplished as a result of having access to even greater resources, as well as coordinated management and consistent standards across those jurisdictions."

Huw Moses, Managing Partner of the Grand Cayman Office noted, " Our respective clients are already utilising and benefiting from our range of multi-jurisdictional services. They can continue to expect high quality service throughout the Group and will receive objective guidance with respect to selecting a jurisdiction based on their particular needs"

The combined group will continue to focus on the historical strengths of each firm: corporate advice, insurance, funds and investment services, asset finance and banking, telecommunications, capital markets and financial structures, dispute resolution, insolvency and restructuring, trust and property. Additionally, the legal offerings are complemented by trust, corporate administration and company management services.
