Hong Kong: Ogier Announces Two Partner Appointments In Hong Kong
Last Updated: 5 August 2015

Law firm Ogier has announced the appointment of Kate Hodson and Anthony Oakes in its Hong Kong team.

Ogier Hong Kong practice partner Nicholas Plowman said: "Our Hong Kong team continues to make massive strides in the market. These appointments bring the total partner numbers in Hong Kong to five and give us real critical mass in the Asian market. Our Hong Kong office focuses on its core service lines being investment funds, corporate and commercial, banking and finance, dispute resolution (including contentious and non-contentious restructuring and insolvency) and private wealth.

"Ogier in Hong Kong was voted "Offshore Law Firm of the Year" in 2014 by Asian Investor off the back of our highly regarded investment funds practice in Asia.  We have been involved in a series of high profile fund launches in the past 12-18 months and we are now seen as one of the key "go to offshore funds teams" by Asian managers and service providers alike. More recently, Ogier also won The Lawyer's prestigious "Offshore Law Firm of the Year 2015" award highlighting its strength and depth globally.

"Kate and Anthony's appointments are recognition of our continued growth within the Asian market and the continuing and steady build out of our key service lines in this market".

Kate Hodson is part of Ogier's highly successful Hong Kong Funds practice. In her new role Kate will put particular focus on strengthening Ogier's private equity capabilities in Asia as well as specialising in advising on unit trust structures in the Japanese market.  In addition to funds work, Kate supports clients in respect of their corporate and commercial transactions, advising on both Cayman Islands and BVI law. As well as advising fund managers, sponsors and other service providers, Kate also acts for a number of family office and HNWIs, in particular setting up private funds.

Anthony Oakes is spearheading Ogier's Finance practice in Asia. Anthony specialises in banking, capital markets, corporate and commercial transactions and structured finance, as well as non-contentious restructuring/insolvency. Anthony recently led a landmark transaction for Ogier - Garuda Indonesia's US$500 million sukuk. This was the first ever offshore US dollar offering by an Indonesian corporate issuer and paves the way for other corporate issuers in Asia to access the global Islamic capital markets. Anthony speaks English and Mandarin.
