UK: Wragge & Co LLP Advises Cambridge Antibody Technology on Sixth Transaction in Twelve Months

Wragge & Co LLP Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology Team advised Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) on restructuring its agreement with Amgen Inc. Under the new deal Amgen takes over responsibility for the future development of antibodies covered by the agreement. CAT will have the right to receive milestone and royalty payments upon the success of the programmes.

The Wragge & Co team was led by biotechnology partner Patrick Duxbury and associate Luke Kempton working with CAT’s general counsel Diane Mellett and the business development team. Wragge & Co has been working with CAT, which is one of the world’s leading antibody drug development companies and listed on LSE UK and NASDAQ, for four years. The company is acknowledged to be a world leader in the development of human monoclonal antibodies as new treatments for human diseases. The Amgen re-structuring is the sixth project completed for CAT by Wragge & Co in the last twelve months. Other work carried out by Wragge & Co for CAT includes corporate, employment and share options. Other projects include acting for CAT on its agreement with Dyax Corporation and its cross licence with Micromet AG and Enzon Inc.

Amgen was represented by its in-house legal team led by Ben Thorner.
