Toronto—Dentons is pleased to announce that David Allgood is joining our Firm as Counsel. Based in our Toronto office, David will be working closely with our clients and internal teams across Canada and around the world.

David has earned an outstanding reputation in the Canadian and global legal and business community for his expertise, integrity and innovative thought leadership. His contributions to the area of business law have been recognized through the establishment of The David Allgood Professorship in Business Law at Queen's Law School, and David was awarded the Canadian General Counsel Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. David served on the Board of the Association of Corporate Counsel from 2006-2015 and was the first Canadian Board Chair (October 2013-October 2014) in the organization's more than 30-year history.

Prior to joining Dentons, David was Executive Vice President and General Counsel at RBC, a position he held from 2000 until April of this year. In this role as a dual senior legal and business advisor, David's responsibilities included providing strategic advice and counsel to RBC Executive Management and its Board of Directors on legal and reputational issues, and management of the General Counsel Group comprising 190 lawyers and professionals located in 15 countries. He was also a member of RBC's Ethics and Compliance and Reputational Risk Oversight Committees.

"We are honoured to welcome David to Dentons. Our clients, in Canada and around the world, will greatly benefit from his strategic advice and his unique insight and expertise," said Chris Pinnington, Dentons' Canada Chief Executive Officer. "David is also a recognized leader in the areas of diversity and inclusion and pro bono, and he has a strong record of dedicated community service, all of which are key priorities at Dentons, and will form an important part of David's role with the Firm."

"David's experience in leading the drive for change in the legal profession is closely aligned with Dentons' focus on innovation and challenging the status quo, to meet our clients' needs," said Elliott Portnoy, Dentons' Global Chief Executive Officer. "We are delighted to welcome David and we look forward to working with him to bring his exceptional experience and invaluable perspective to our clients and our people."

"Dentons' commitment to innovation in legal services, including transformative ventures such as NextLaw Labs, combined with its 'in and of the community' approach in the context of an unmatched global presence ‎is a tremendous opportunity," said David Allgood. "Dentons' core focus on diversity and inclusion, pro bono and community service makes the Firm a natural fit for me. I look forward to working with the highly talented Dentons team and to being a part of the strategy, drive and energy at the Firm."
