UK: Clyde & Co Expands Real Estate And Energy Groups With Manchester Team Hire
Last Updated: 17 June 2015

A team of four Real Estate lawyers including Liam Buckley and Stelios Coutsavlis joins Clyde & Co's Manchester office to further strengthen the Real Estate, projects and energy sector offerings across the UK and develop a new commercial Real Estate and Projects practice in Manchester.

Liam has more than 25 years' experience covering commercial property finance, investment and development, property joint ventures, as well as leasing, management and portfolio transactions.  Liam is recognised in the legal directories as one of Manchester's leading Real Estate lawyers and has been involved in some of Manchester's highest profile transactions including the rebuilding and subsequent sale to the Prudential of the Manchester Arndale Centre following the IRA attack in the 1990s; the development of the Manchester business district "Spinningfields" including landmark lettings of up to 500,000 square feet of the Northern Headquarter offices of The Royal Bank of Scotland Plc; and more recently on the £1,6 billion sale of the issued share capital of the Iceland Frozen Foods group.

Liam moves from Squire Patton Boggs (formerly Hammonds) where he was head of the firm's UK Real Estate practice, and before that the Managing Partner of the firm's Manchester office. Liam said:

I am delighted to be joining Clyde & Co.  This is a great time for the Real Estate market in the North West with significant investment interest from outside the region and indeed across the world. With that investment interest, and the government's devolution agenda, Manchester will continue to be an exciting place to practice.  Clyde & Co is one of the legal firms which recognises the opportunities to develop its business here in the North West, and I am looking forward to contributing to that in my role leading the Real Estate team at Clyde & Co Manchester

With more than 25 years' experience also, Stelios Coutsavlis is a highly recognised specialist in commercial development and projects specialising in UK mainstream, nuclear and renewable energies such as wind and biomass. Stelios said:

As investment in infrastructure and real estate continues to flow north, and opportunities in the UK energy sector grow, we are pleased to be joining a market leading firm like Clyde & Co and further building the firm's track record in these fields. We are very pleased to be joining the firm at such an exciting time of growth

Manchester managing partner James Dadge commented:

Clyde & Co's continuous growth has not just been on an international scale. Our Manchester office is establishing itself as one of the largest in the city. It has grown 19 per cent in the last year alone, with a 22 per cent increase in headcount.

We see Manchester as an exciting place to do business, and we are looking to expand and develop the Clyde & Co offering in Manchester into one of the city's leading Corporate and Commercial law firms to complement our existing market leading practices in insurance, employment, pensions and marine.

Through the joining of Liam, Stelios and their team, we are able to significantly enhance our service to clients within the region and across the UK to build upon our already highly reputable Manchester practice.
