Australia: Clayton Utz proud to formally launch LGBTI Alliance
Last Updated: 15 May 2015

Leading Australian law firm Clayton Utz has formally launched a national program to support its employees who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Intersex (LGBTI).

The program, LGBTI Alliance, is led by the firm's Diversity Council. It is part of the firm's broader commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture that recognises and celebrates the diversity of our people.

Clayton Utz Chief Executive Partner and Diversity Council chair, Rob Cutler, said the launch of the LGBTI Alliance had strong support within the firm.

"At Clayton Utz, we already take immense pride in cultivating a work environment that appreciates diversity, and we continuously strive to be a more wholly inclusive and diverse workplace. Our LGBTI Alliance is about formalising our commitment to our people who identify as LGBTI. It's about empowering them to bring their whole selves to work, so they feel comfortable and free to contribute and achieve their full potential," he said.

Clayton Utz Head of Diversity Alison Woolsey said partners and employees had welcomed the LGBTI Alliance program. "We have had an overwhelming response to our call to people to participate in the steering group or to volunteer to be allies. While the LGBTI Alliance is still in the early days, we are taking active steps to ensure we have LGBTI-friendly internal policies and to identify other ways we can support employees who choose to identify as LGBTI."

Clayton Utz has provided pro bono legal assistance to people who are LGBTI and to the organisations which represent and support them.
