SMSFs are becoming a major focus of a client's estate planning, particularly given the size of SMSF balances. Dealing appropriately with the specialist estate planning issues arising from SMSFs is absolutely vital.

However, we are starting to see an increasing number of cases where the initial planning has been challenged and found to be deficient. Unfortunately, these deficiencies are often only discovered once it is too late.

In this case study-focused session we will explore topics such as:

  • the importance of planning for incapacity
  • whether a binding death benefit nomination is enough
  • challenge your thinking about binding death benefit nominations
  • considering the bigger picture with passing control of the SMSF on and after death
  • tips and traps in the trust deed and what to look for when estate planning for clients with SMSFs
  • practical steps we must take when a member has lost capacity or died.

We hope you will be able to join us.
